Outstanding scientists and researchers can conduct research and PhD students can complete a doctorate in the fields of space, aeronautics, energy, transport, digitalisation and security at an institute of the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
Who can apply?
International PhD students, postdocs and established researchers with
- a very good university degree equivalent to a German master’s degree or doctorate in a relevant subject
- excellent English language skills
Further requirements
The fellowships are defined and awarded on an individual basis. Each fellowship advertisement will indicate the specific qualification requirements and terms of the visit.
Type and extent of funding
The fellowship for PhD students is 1,760 euros per month with additional flat-rate travel allowance, health insurance and family allowances. Early career researchers receive a fellowship of 2,400 euros per month and established researchers 2,760 euros per month.

GERMANY: PhD Scholarships in Aeronautics and Space
Munich Aerospace awards doctoral scholarships in the field of aerospace research to support young scientists. The scholarships are aimed at qualified university graduates who have completed their studies in a field relevant to aerospace and are now aspiring for a doctorate at the Technical University of Munich or the Bundeswehr University Munich.
To promote excellent, scientific young academics, Munich Aerospace awards PhD scholarships on several research topics

The Scholarship
The Munich Aerospace scholarship amount is 1.575 € per month granted for a minimum of 12 months and limited to a maximum of 3 years. Munich Aerospace scholarship holders are entitled to attend the Munich Aerospace Graduate School, formed by the TUM Graduate School and the DLR_Graduate_Program, and have access to special events and trainings. An additional grant of up to € 6.100 per year will be available to cover expenses that are directly related to the PhD project (e.g. textbooks, laptop, conference travels, public transport, housing subsidy). The scholarship holder is part of a Munich Aerospace research group and receives additional technical support from the research group head. The candidates receive their PHD from TUM or UniBwM.
